Discover Lowers Cashback Redemption Threshold to $5 for Gift Cards

Discover has made a customer friendly change that makes it easier for you to use the cashback you have earned with the Discover it card. Cardmembers can now redeem their Cashback Bonus for gift cards starting at $5 face value, down from $25.

Cardmembers will also have the ability to redeem gift cards for dollar amounts in $5 increments between $5 and $200, where previously they could only redeem for certain fixed-value gift cards, such as $25 or $50 gift cards. Note that not all gift cards will start at $5.

“Offering gift cards starting at $5 provides cardmembers so much more flexibility when they use their Cashback Bonus. We’re always looking for ways to make using rewards as easy as possible—be it turning rewards into cash or using them to make purchases at Amazon and PayPal, or making charitable donations to worthy causes. Now cardmembers will have even more choices when they redeem,” said Meera Sridharan, Vice President of Rewards and Product Strategy.
