Citi issues a Sears Mastercard credit card that’s not talked about much. The card often has great spending offers, but to go and get it just to hope that you receive some offers, doesn’t make sense for most people. Now there’s a $40 sign-up bonus that makes it a little better if you had your eyes on it. The card usually doesn’t have a signup bonus at all, but we’ve seen it as high as $150 in the past.
Bonus Requirements
Spend $50 on eligible purchases in the first 30 days after you are approved for a new Sears Mastercard and get $40 back as a statement credit. This offer is for all new accounts opened between 11/1/18 – 1/31/19. Online applications only.
Card Benefits
When you’re approved for a new Sears Mastercard you earn points in more places, including gas stations, restaurants, Sears and Kmart and all other eligible purchases, for 12 months from the date of account opening. You will earn the following rates for up to $10,000 in purchases:
- 5% back in points on eligible gas station purchases
- 3% back in points on eligible restaurant (including cafes, bars, lounges and fast food restaurants)
Plus you will receive
- 2% back in points on purchases at Sears and Kmart
- 1% everywhere else
Guru’s Wrap-Up
If you’ve been thinking about this card, then this is a small extra incentive to apply. You’re not able to product change to this card, so applying for it is the only option. The $40 bonus is not really a reason to get a credit card, but many people want this card for the targeted spending offers that can earn you even more than the bonus.
The ShopYourWay version might not be the best option with the issues at Sears and Kmart. But they do have versions of the card that offer ThankYou and Cash rewards instead. You can product change once you receive your new card.
