Southwest Plus and Premier Cardmembers now have the ability to enjoy two EarlyBird Check-In® credits per year, and Premier and Priority Cardmembers have the ability to spend their way to A-List status. Cardmembers can enjoy these new perks in addition to their existing benefits, such as Anniversary Points, accelerated earn on Southwest purchases, and points on every purchase made with their card.

Welcome Bonuses Up to 100K

To celebrate the addition of the new benefits, new consumer Cardmembers can earn up to 100,000 Rapid Rewards points now through Dec. 7, 2021:

In addition, new business Cardmembers have the ability to earn up to 80,000 Rapid Rewards points:

  • New Premier Business Cardmembers can earn 60,000 Rapid Rewards® points after spending $3,000 in the first three months

Referral Bonus

These same welcome bonuses can get even better when you apply through a referral link from a friend or family member. You will still get the same bonus, but the person referring you will earn 20,000 points for every referral. You are limited to 5 referrals per year for a total of 100,000 points.

This is double the normal referral bonus of 10,000 with an annual maximum of 50,000.

Guru’s Wrap-up

If you fly Southwest, then you should definitely take a look at these new welcome bonuses. You can earn 100,000 points plus once you are done with the spending, you get pretty close to the Southwest Companion Pass. When adding the points you earn from spending $12,000 on your new card, you will have a total of 112,000 Southwest points. You will need to earn just 13,000 more to get the Companion pass. If you can get a referral, that will do it.

And the timing of these offers is also great. The Southwest Companion Pass is valid for the remainder of the year in which you earned it, plus the following full calendar year. So it is possible to earn it for close to 24 months if you time it right and earn the Companion Pass sometime in early January.
