Chase Freedom Flex Removing Foreign Transaction Fees
The Chase Freedom Flex® is dropping its 3% foreign transaction fee beginning September 20, 2026. Once the change takes effect, cardholders will be able to use the card for purchases made outside the U.S. and with international merchants online without paying the extra fee.
This marks a significant improvement for one of Chase’s most popular no-annual-fee cards. While the Freedom Flex has long offered strong bonus categories such as 3% on dining and drugstores and 5% on Chase travel, as well as quarterly 5% rotating categories, the foreign transaction fee made it a poor choice for travel abroad.

Removing the foreign transaction fee makes the Freedom Flex a much more versatile card. If you’re already carrying it for its bonus categories, you’ll soon be able to use it internationally without worrying about a 3% fee.
It’s worth mentioning that on that same date there’s also a negative change coming. Chase is removing the cell phone protection benefit from the Chase Freedom Flex® card.
