Offer Analysis

This is not the best bonus we have seen on the card, but it has a lower spending requirement. One positive aspect of this card is that it is issued by Synchrony Bank which issues mainly retailer cards. They are more lenient with approvals so most people with a good credit shouldn’t have any issues.

Some of the highlights of this card, besides the 40K bonus, are that it earns 1.5 Asia Miles per $1 spent on purchases outside of the US. This could be a good option for people who travel often abroad and have lots of spending in non bonused categories. You also receive complimentary Green membership to the Marco Polo Club for the first year of enrollment. There’s usually a $100 to join, and membership give you the ability to redeeem miles for lounge access and other perks. Sadly you only get the free membership for the first year, and you have to pay $100 the following year. At least a discount would have made sense.

When it comes to redeeming miles for award flights, their chart is distance based.

If you need more miles, you can transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou programs.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This Cathay Pacific Credit Card 40K bonus is a decent offer. The card comes with a few perks, but nothing huge. You need to spend $2,000 to get the bonus, whhcih is relatively low compared to most credit card bonuses.

You can always get extra Asia Miles by transferring points from major rewards programs, so that should help with redemptions.
