New Capital One Lounge Coming to IAD
A Capital One lounge is coming to Dulles International Airport. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority will authorize a contract this week. The new Dulles International Airport passenger lounge will be located at the base of the old air traffic control tower. Capital One has its headquarters in the Washington DC area.
ACBJ reports that the lounge will be in a 9,100-square-foot space, located just beyond the TSA security area. TAV America Operations Services will construct and manage it with branding sponsored by Capital One. The lounge will feature a green building design with unique and comfortable seating. It will also provide most things frequent travelers expect at these lounges and more. There are Wi-Fi and business services, conference room space, “premium liquors and wines,” high-quality dining, quiet rooms, a workout room, a shower room, select spa services and a children’s play room.
Access to the lounge will be open to the public for a fee, which will be set “at market rates at the time of the lounge’s opening.” With it being branded as a Capital One lounge, you can’t help but think that there might be some kind of cheaper or free access given to Capital One cardholders. But there is no information at all on that front at his time.
Capital One has recently introduced travel partners to its Venture miles program, so a Capital One lounge does make sense.
TAV America has agreed to pay $22.9 million over 10 years to MWAA. That comes in the form of a minimum annual guarantee, plus 33% of gross revenues resulting from the lounge operation, to include entry fees and sale of ancillary goods and services. The initial design and construction requires a minimum investment of $7.5 million.
TAV already manages many airport lounges across the globe, from Turkey to Chile to Denmark to Tunisia and Switzerland. They also have three lounges in the United States. There is one at JFK in NYC, one at Palm Beach International Airport in Florida and another at Dulles, the Turkish Airlines Star Alliance Lounge.
