Barclay will usually only approve you for a card every 6 months. If you have a Barclay card, is bet to put some spend on it before applying for another card. They don’t like dormant cardholders. There’s no real limit on the number of cards you can have with Barclay.
They also have a 6/24 rule. That means that they might not approve you if you’ve had more than 6 new cards in the last 24 months. I say might because we’re not sure if it still applies, and even before it was never really a hard rule.
Now they also added the following language:
In addition, you may not be eligible for this offer if, at any time during our relationship with you, we have cause, as determined by us in our sole discretion, to suspect that the account is being obtained or will be used for abusive or gaming activity (such as, but not limited to, obtaining or using the account to maximize rewards earned in a manner that is not consistent with typical consumer activity and/or multiple credit card account applications/openings).
Guru’s Wrap-Up
A pretty good offer if you’re in need of American Airlines Advantage miles. We have seen this Barclays Aviator Red 60K bonus in the past and the waived annual fee makes it even better.
Let me know what you think.

How long after the first initial purchase will the 60K bonus miles be delivered to my American account? I took advantage of the in flight offer with the first year fee waived, but dont see anything about delivery of the bonus miles.
Other variations of this offer mention that you must also pay the yearly fee to get the miles, but I dont see that in the language of this offer.
Applied for the Aviator Card on line today after receiving a in flight Application. When I went online there was no place to Insert the coupon code to receive the special offer. I called the credit card company three times today they kept transferring me and no one can give me any answers. Any suggestions? The airline stewardess Assured me that the The offer with a coupon code would be the same online.
I see the coupon box when I click link, at the top of the page. Did you try the link?
The T&Cs say “You may not be eligible for this offer if you currently have or previously had an account with us in this program.”
We had this card in 2015 or so when it converted from the US Airways card. Any data points on whether or not we might be leigible for the sign up bonus?
Thanks!
That language has always been there, but not always enforced. I think you should be OK, especially since you were converted from US Airways card.
thanks! And do you by any chance know if the tickets need to purchased with the card in order to get the free checked bag or is it given simply for being a cardmember (like the JetBlue card)?
Just need to have the card. “For this benefit to apply, the Card Account must be open 7 days prior to air travel, and the reservation must include the primary cardmember’s AAdvantage® Account number 7 days prior to air travel.”
