British Airways has a promotion that can get you lots of Avios when you sign up for a 3 year subscription to The Economist. It’s a decent deal if you don’t care much about the Economist, but even better if you were already planning to sign up for a subscription.

  • Subscribe to a 3 year subscription to The Economist. That’s 25,200 Avios for a Print + Digital subscription or 22,200 Avios for just Print or just Digital.
    • 10,200 Avios for a one year Print OR Digital subscription and 13,200 for a one year Print AND Digital subscription.
    • 16,200 Avios for a two year Print OR Digital subscription and 19,200 for a two year Print AND Digital subscription.
    • 22,200 Avios for a three year Print OR Digital subscription and 25,200 for a three year Print AND Digital subscription.

Offer Terms

  1. To be eligible for this offer, new customers must be a member of the British Airways Executive Club (BAEC), Iberia Plus Programme, AerClub and Vueling Club.
  2. Eligible members will collect 3,400 Avios for a one year Print OR Digital subscription and 4,400 Avios for a one year Print AND Digital subscription.
  3. Between the dates of 1 September 2018 and 31 October 2018 customers will collect up to 25,200 Avios when you subscribe to The Economist for 3 years.
    a) 10,200 Avios for a one year Print OR Digital subscription and 13,200 for a one year Print AND Digital subscription.
    b) 16,200 Avios for a two year Print OR Digital subscription and 19,200 for a two year Print AND Digital subscription.
    c) 22,200 Avios for a three year Print OR Digital subscription and 25,200 for a three year Print AND Digital subscription.
  4. Country exceptions from 1 September 2018 and 31 October 2018 include:
    a) China will only be available on Print AND Digital and Print only subscriptions 1 year, 2 years and 3 years. There will be no Digital only subscription available.
    b) India will only be available on Print AND Digital and Print only 2 and 3 year subscriptions. There will be no 1 year subscription term and no Digital only subscriptions available.
    c) Canada will only be available on 2 and 3 year Print OR Digital and Print AND Digital subscription. There will be no 1 year subscription term available.
  5. To sign up, Eligible Customers must visit the dedicated webpage and click on ‘Subscribe now’, choose the subscription type (digital and/or print) and enter the British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus , AerClub or Vueling membership account number.
  6. Avios will be awarded to your account within 28 days.
  7. Eligible Customers can cancel their subscription at any time. If an Eligible Customer is a resident in the EU, you may cancel your subscription within the first 14 days and get a refund for any part of your subscription that has not already been delivered for the print element or published for any digital element before you cancelled. If an Eligible Customer cancels after the first 14 days as an EU resident, or if the Eligible Customer is not a resident in the EU, once Avios have been awarded to your account, you will not be refunded for any unused portion of your subscription upon cancellation.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

You’re basically buying Avios for about 1.35 to 1.5 cents each. Not a deal for everyone, but you can sure get much more value than that out of Avios. In Europe you can find plenty of flgiths starting at just 4,500 Avios one way and in the U.S. from 7,500.
