Amex Green Card No Longer Available for New Applications
American Express has removed the Green Card from its website, meaning the card is no longer available to new applicants. Anyone visiting the previous application page is now greeted with an error page, marking the latest development in what appears to be an ongoing transition for the longtime travel rewards card.
Last month, American Express notified existing cardholders that the Green Card will be renamed the American Express Classic Green Card beginning August 20, 2026, while stating that the card’s benefits, rewards, and annual fee would remain unchanged. At the time, many speculated that the “Classic” branding could pave the way for an all-new Green Card product.
For now, the card is no longer open to new applicants, but it is reportedly still available as a product change for eligible American Express cardholders. Whether Amex is simply preparing for a refresh or plans to introduce an entirely new Green Card remains to be seen.
