Amazon Offering Gift Cards to Some Data Breach Victims

About a week ago, some Amazon customers received a weird email from the retail giant. The email said that their names and email addresses had been “inadvertently disclosed” due to a “technical error.” But Amazon didn’t provide the details of where, and how, the account information was exposed. The company’s most recent data breach exposing customer email addresses arrived just days ahead of Black Friday.

Clearly many people are upset and have reached out to Amazon to find out more about the data breach. While Amazon has not been forthcoming with details, they have been giving out Amazon gift cards to affected customers as per Tom’s Guide.

Some customers have received $5 or $10, but there’s at least one report that Amazon gave out a $100 gift card as an apology.

But not everyone is receiving a gift card. Some who reached out to Amazon customer service have received little to no response and have been flatly denied any compensation.

I didn’t receive such an email myself, but if you did, then definitely reach out to Amazon and see if you have any luck at receiving compensation. Please let me know if you were affected and how it works out for you.
