Can You Apply for a Business Credit Card?

When it comes to business credit cards, a question that often pops up is whether you are eligible to apply and what counts as a “business.” Do you need to have a formal company to apply for a business credit card? The answer is quite simple:
  • You are eligible to apply for a business credit card if you have any side hustle or hobby that generates an extra income, no matter how small. It doesn’t have to be a registered business ad it can be as simple as dog-walking for your neighbors, tutoring, driving for Lyft or Uber Eats, selling on eBay, Amazon or OfferUp, and much more.
  • When you apply for a business credit card, you can choose to do so with your social security number and your name as the business name.
  • For business structure, you can choose “Sole Proprietorship” if you don’t have a formal business like an LLC or corporation.

Guru’s Wrap-up

This is a good bonus for the Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card. You can earn 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $8,000 in three months. Just make sure that you can handle that kind of spend before applying.

We have seen better offers in the past though. Just over a year ago there was a 120K bonus with the same spend, and we have also seen in-branch offers for 160K with $50K spend.

As for referrals, keep in mind that you will likely not receive a bonus is an existing Chase Business card customer.
