Amex Closing All Serve and Bluebird Accounts
American Express sent out emails this morning, informing Serve and Bluebird cardholders that their accounts will shut down next year.
Here’s the text of the email for Serve customers (similar email went out for Bluebird):
“We are writing to give you advance notice that we have made the decision to discontinue the Serve® American Express® Prepaid Debit Account program.
As a result, next year on June 3, 2026, we will be closing your Serve American Express Prepaid Debit Account ending in XXXX
We are letting you know now so you have time to prepare and consider other options that may meet your financial needs. Next year’s key dates of the discontinuation include:
February 24, 2026 – Last day to utilize bill pay functionality
May 5, 2026 – Last day to add funds to your Account
June 3, 2026 – All Serve American Express Prepaid Debit Accounts will be closed”
I was shut down a few years back, so this news doesn’t affect me. But I know there are still many people who use these products.
