BBVA NBA Card Adds Cap To 5% Cash Back

The BBVA Compass NBA credit card is a card that offered unlimited 5% cash back anywhere during the NBA All-Star Weekend and two weeks of the NBA Finals. it also came with a $150-$200 sign up bonus. If you’re not familiar with the card, you can read more about it here. Although there would be some glitches when people try to go crazy during the promo period, it was pretty lucrative if you had a high CL. I had trouble signing up (with identity confirmation), so I don’t have the card myself.

BBVA Compass has now made some major changes to the card. You will only earn 5% cash back on up to $5,000 per event. That means you can do $5,000 spending during the NBA All-Star Weekend and $5,000 spending during the two weeks of the NBA Finals for a total of $10,000 a year. That’s $500 in cash back per year.

That’s not that bad on its own, but BBVA Compass has also made it harder to sign up for the card. You can either apply in branch, by calling 1-844-NBA-BBVA or through http://ecredable.com/. There’s no longer a link directly on the BBVA Compass website.

They have also removed the sign up bonus which would give you another $150-$200.

One piece of good news is that the new restrictions go into effect on July 1, 2016, which means that you’ll be able to have one more round of uncapped spending with 5% cash back during the NBA Finals. The Finals take place June 2 through June 19.
