You Can Still Get Welcome Bonus from Each Platinum Card

Update: American Express also confirmed in an email that the new bonus eligibility language doesn’t change anything. They “confirm that ‘previous’ means previous versions of the same Platinum Card. The co-branded Platinum cards are considered different products. With the news of the new Amex Platinum benefits and increased annual fee, we also saw a new language in the terms that raised some questions about eligibility for welcome bonuses. The regular Platinum, the Schwab Platinum and Morgan Stanley Platinum cards all have the following restriction:

Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card or previous versions of the Platinum Card. We may also consider the number of American Express Cards you have opened and closed as well as other factors in making a decision on your welcome offer eligibility.

This is slightly different from the previous language before July. There was some doubt whether this meant that you can now get only one Amex Platinum bonus per lifetime. Meaning that if you received the bonus from the Schwab Platinum card, you would not be eligible for a bonus from the Amex Platinum card. But now we have one data point on Reddit that shows that nothing has changed for now. Each flavor of the Platinum Card is still considered a separate product and you can get the bonus once for each card. This is what I assumed in a previous article as well, but t’s good to see some type of confirmation. I also reached out to Amex for an official explanation.
