United Airlines TravelBank Purchases Working for Amex Incidental Credits
American Express airline incidental credits are a great perks for cardholders who are also frequent flyers. However, using these credits is not always as easy as just using travel credits. United Airlines TravelBank purchases were one way to use these credits until mid January. The purchases originally coded as “special service ticket”, and it was then switched to “gift certificate”, which no longer triggered the airline incidental credits.
But some data points in recent days (flyertalk and reddit) show that United Airlines TravelBank purchases are working once again, and coding as “special service ticket”. Looks like the switch was made somewhere around February 14.
The four American Express credit cards that offer these credits are:
- The Platinum Card® from American Express – $200
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express – $200
- Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card – $250
- American Express® Gold Card – $100 (not available for new cardholders)
Guru’s Wrap-up
With the new year and the opportunity to start using airline incidental credits again, this should be great news for many, especially those who often fly United.
Let me know if you have any recent data points.
Worked for me! Bought on Feb 20, 2021, credit posted on February 24, 2021. But I think the site doesn’t allow it anymore.
