Many hotel loyalty programs have a vary bad conversion rate to Aeroplan miles. SPG is the only major program that has 1 to 1 transfers.

Here’s the conversion rates

  • SPG 1:1
  • Wyndham Rewards 5:1
  • Best Western Rewards 5:1
  • Choice Privileges 5:1
  • Coast Rewards 1:1
  • Club Carlson 10:1
  • Hilton HHonors 10:1
  • Marriott Rewards 5:1
  • Le Club Accorhotels 2:1
  • Golden Circle Award 1:1
  • Hertz Gold Plus: 6:5
  • Diners Club 1:1

As DoC points out in his post, SPG Starpoints are the only ones that would make sense. For every 20,000 Starpoints transferred to Aeroplan, you get 5,000 bonus miles. So if you recently applied for the Business Amex SPG card for example, you’d end up with 40,000 Starpoints. Transfer that to Aeroplan, and you get 50,000 plus 10,000 bonus for a total of 60,000 miles.

With that said, that still might not be the best use of SPG Starpoints. They’re worth about 2.5 cent, while Aeroplan miles are worth about 1.5 cents each.
