Santander Bank is offering a bonus of $300 for new checking accounts. It requires $1,000 in direct deposits and is limited to NH, MA, RI, CT, DE, NY, NJ or PA.

Offer Requirements

Open an eligible new checking account by 12/31/2018 and get $300 when you do the following:

Open with the promotion code: DIGBONUS300DMP
Have direct deposits totaling $1,000 or more post within the first 90 days, starting the first business day after opening the account.
Keep your account open for at least 90 days and open at the time of the bonus payment.
Once you meet these conditions, your bonus $300 will be paid.

Offer is only available to residents of NH, MA, RI, CT, DE, NY, NJ, or PA.

Offer is not available if any account owner is a current deposit customer of Santander or had a Santander deposit account in the last 12 months prior to account opening.

Fees

Simply Right Checking is the best option. It has a $10 monthly fee that is waived when you make any financial transaction that posts during a calendar month. Includes deposits, withdrawals, transfers or payments. Excludes fees, rebates or adjustments posted by Santander.

No early closing fees.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

This is the best public bonus we have seen from Santander, and it’s been a while since we last saw it.

If you’re going for it, then the best option is the Simply Right Checking account, which has a higher fee than Basic checking, but it is waiveable. All you need to do is one transaction a month to keep it fee-free, such as bill pay. To get the bonus, just open the account with $500 credit card funding (set CA fees to $0) and then do a direct deposit of $1,000. These are the same requirements as the previous $225 bonus, but you;re getting $75 more. Definitely worth doing if you’re eligible.

You can also open a savings account and fund it with an additional $500 with a credit card.
