Direct Deposits
Direct deposits include deposits made by your employer or a federal or state government agency or retirement benefits administrator and generally payments made by corporations or other organizations. It does not include deposits to your Account that are made by an individual using online banking or an Internet payment provider such as PayPal.
That’s the fine print in the offer, which is pretty specific compared to other banks. Best option is to direct deposit your paycheck if that’s possible, but ACHs should also work.

The best option is the Simply Right Checking account, which has a higher fee than Basic checking, but it is waiveable. All you need to do is one transaction a month to keep it fee-free, such as bill pay. To get the bonus, just open the account with $500 credit card funding (set CA fees to $0) and then do a direct deposit of $500. I won’t apply for the bonus since I have a extra20 Checking account, but you should if you’re eligible. Alliant Bank ACHs have been working for me so far as direct deposit.

Santander Bank required a savings account signup (min deposit $25.00) in order to get the Simply Right Checking:bonus web signup to be accepted. Some CC manufacture spend possible up to $500.00 on each account.
An attractive feature of the Simply Right Checking for me is they will ACH both in or out without a fee. I was able to move the CC funded deposit to another bank about a week later.
Hey Jeff I don’t find that in the terms. Where did you see that?
scam! santander refused to give me $150 bonus because they don’t count ACH transfer from other banks as direct deposit.
What bank did you use?
I made the transfer through Chase. I also called their customer service and was told that It has to be a direct deposit. not just an ACH transfer., to get the $150 bonus.
It says in the terms that it has to be a direct deposit so they will always say that if you call. But usually ACHs will work. Alliant bank was working for me for the extra20 checking bonus.
