Qatar Airways Now Requires Economy Passengers to Wear Face Mask & Shield

Most airlines nowadays require you to wear a face mask on board. But Qatar Airways is going one step further. The airline is now requiring passengers to wear face shields on flights as well. The airline will provide disposable face shields to customers before they board. It is offered along with a complimentary protective kit, which includes a single-use surgical face mask that should also be worn, disposable gloves, and hand sanitizer.

The rule applies to economy class passengers who will only be allowed to remove the face mask and shield during meal and drink services. Business and First Class passengers who will simply be asked if they would like to wear a face shield. Qatar Airways explains that Business class passengers “are asked to wear their face shield and mask on board at their own discretion, as they enjoy more space and privacy.” Children will receive a kid-size face shield with Qatar’s Oryx Kids Club mascots. Kids under two will not be required to wear a face shield or a mask.

Qatar Airways chief executive Akbar Al Baker said: “As the largest international airline flying consistently throughout the pandemic, we have become one of the most experienced in safety and hygiene. We will continue to lead the industry in terms of the services offered to our passengers so that they can travel with confidence.”
