JetBlue and Spirit flip the script on competition argument in new merger legal filing

Attorneys for the airlines stated in a brief to the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that the judge wrongly barred their merger despite seeming to recognize it would “improve competition, and thus reduce prices, for the vast majority of consumers.” ➡️ Read more

Spirit to Launch a New Route to Costa Rica

Spirit Airlines is making it easier to get to Costa Rica thanks to a brand-new flight launching next month from Houston. The new route, which will launch on March 6, will operate daily between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport, the Costa Rica Tourism Board shared with Travel + Leisure. The flight will complement Spirit’s other service to Costa Rica from both Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. ➡️ Read more

Low-cost Lynx Air shuts down, canceling all flights

A Canadian airline offering flights between Phoenix and Canada shut down on Monday, Feb. 26, just one year after launching service in Arizona. Around this time last year, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport celebrated the arrival of Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air, which flew between Phoenix and its hub in Calgary, Alberta. Last October, Lynx added a flight between Phoenix and Toronto. ➡️ Read more

Major ANA Mileage Club Award Chart Devaluation

ANA Mileage Club will be significantly increasing redemption rates for bookings as of April 18, 2024. While the changes are significant, I appreciate the program’s transparency in providing advance notice, and also in listing both the before and after award costs with this announcement. With this devaluation, we’re seeing changes to the ANA international award chart, as well as to the partner airline award chart. ANA Mileage Club has historically had really attractive redemption rates, among the lowest in the industry. With these changes, redemption rates will still be competitive, but just not as good. ➡️ Read more

AT&T customers get $5 for massive network outage

The credit will not apply to customers under AT&T’s Business or Prepaid plans or those who have Cricket Wireless accounts. AT&T acquired Cricket in 2014 for about $1.2 billion. The network outage, which was first reported on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. ET, prevented tens of thousands of subscribers across the United States from fully accessing calls, texts, internet and emergency services.
