American Express Reportedly Adding a New Centurion Lounge
American Express has been slowly reopening its Centurion Lounges around the country after they were closed back in March of 2020 as the pandemic halted travel. American Express Card Members visiting any of Centurion Lounge locations will see new health-and-safety practices in place, as part of the “Centurion Lounge Commitment.” These new practices will be implemented across the lounge network and include, socially distanced seating, reduced capacity, increased cleaning frequency, requirements to wear a face covering when entering the lounge, served food instead of buffets, and more.
While American Express works to reopen its lounges, there are also rumors that a brand new location could be added soon. The information comes from FlyerTalk, and it says that American Express will be building out a new Centurion Lounge at Washington’s National airport. The exact location of this lounge in not clear, but it is possible that it will be built at the current Admirals Club, on the center pier of the B/C terminal.
I reached out to American Express for comments and was told just that “American Express is constantly exploring ways to enhance, expand and improve its Centurion Lounge network offerings, however we do not have further details to share at this time.” They added that for now, the company is just looking forward to opening new lounges at DEN and LHR soon.
The same user on FlyerTalk also reports significant improvement at the Seattle location. The lounge will reportedly move from the current 4500 square foot space to a new 13,700 square foot space on the upper level of the Central Terminal, above the central food court. American Express will sign a 10 year lease with 5 year option.
This expansion, is true, is in addition to the planned expansion for the Centurion Lounge at San Francisco International Airport that was announced in November. It includes almost doubling the footprint to almost 16,000 square feet, making it one of the largest Centurion Lounge locations. No dates have been set yet for when everything will get going or be completed.
