New York City Is the Most Expensive New Year’s Eve Destination
New York City has been crowned as the world’s most expensive destination for overnight stays this New Year’s Eve.
A survey by Cheaphotels.org compared hotel prices across 50 major cities. For each destination, the rate for the cheapest available double room for a 3-night stay from December 30 – January 2 was documented. Only hotels with a central location, with three stars or more, and with generally good guest reviews were considered.
With a nightly rate of $312 for the cheapest room, the Big Apple came out top of the rankings. Another US destination, Miami in Florida, emerged 2nd with a nightly rate of $297, while Sydney, Australia completes the podium with a marginally cheaper rate of $295.
London, UK is the priciest European city with a rate of $275 per night, placing it 4th overall. The most expensive Asian destination is Tokyo, Japan where visitors will have to pay $232 per night.
Compared with New Year’s Eve last year, when travel was still heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Tokyo’s rates are more than 300% pricier this time around. Another destination where rates have shot up compared to a year ago is Marrakech in Morocco, where prices have more than tripled. For the results of last New Year’s Eve survey, please click here.
