Google has agreed to settle a 2018 class-action lawsuit involving the original Pixel and Pixel XL phones. The tech giant will pay customers who bought those phones up to $500 each. This Google pixel lawsuit is separate from the one that will pay out $400 to Nexus 6P owners.
Some early adopters of the first Google-branded smartphones started reporting that one or more of their devices’ three mics stopped working shortly after the devices were released. Google admitted back in 2017 that there was an issue with the phone.
Additionally, the lawsuit claimed that some of the replacement phones Google sent out were also afflicted with the issue.
Only those who can meet a few requirements will be eligible for payout, though. Their phones should’ve been manufactured before January 4th, 2017 and they must join the settlement by July 9th, 2019. They must also be able to provide proof of purchase or must have been contacted directly by the Settlement Administration about the lawsuit.
Who is Eligible
Any US Pixel or Pixel XL user who:
- Bought a phone manufactured before January 4th, 2017
- Joins the settlement by July 9th, 2019 (60 days from the May 10th notice)
- Can provide proof of purchase, or was contacted directly by the Settlement Administration about the lawsuit
How Much Do I Get?
The unlucky customers who experienced the problem more than once because of faulty replacements are the only ones who can claim $500 through this Google pixel lawsuit. Others who had the issue but didn’t receive a replacement, will get $350. Then those who still want to be part of the lawsuit even though they haven’t experienced the problem themselves can get $20.
Google has set aside $7.25 million for the settlement fund. If claims pass that amount, then the money will be distributed on a pro-rata basis.
