How to Earn This Bonus
To be eligible for the $250 checking incentive, you must complete the following:
- open a new SmartPlus checking account (and savings account to meet eligibility)
- enroll in eStatements, complete 15 debit card transactions (ATM transactions excluded), and
- receive a payroll or government benefit direct deposit within 60 days of opening the checking account.
The checking account must be opened with a minimum of $5 if opened in the branch, or $25 if opened online. No minimum ongoing balance is required.
Earn 7.00% APY
Wth this account you can also earn 7.00% APY on the first $5,000. You must meet the following requirements during each monthly qualifying period: provide and maintain valid email address, apply for and use your Visa® debit card to make 15 debit card transactions that post and settle to your account, have at least one direct deposit of $200 or more post to your account, and enroll to receive eStatements. If the requirements are not met during the monthly qualifying period, the “non-qualifying” 0.01% APY will apply to the entire balance.

This is a a decent bonus from Gesa Credit Union, but you must eligibility before applying. The $250 bonus requires 15 debit transactions and a direct deposit. If you meet more requirements, you can also earn a 7% APY on the first $5,000 in your account.
Gesa also allows you to fund with a credit card for up to $5,000 which is an added bonus on its own. Just make sure that transaction doesn’t count a cash advance.
