eBay Will Stop Accepting American Express Cards in August
eBay will stop accepting American Express credit cards as a payment option because of “unacceptably high fees”. eBay started to notify customers this week about the change, which is set to take effect on August 17.
The text of the email says that “after careful consideration, eBay has decided to no longer accept American Express globally effective August 17 due to the unacceptably high fees American Express charges for processing credit card transactions”.
The two companies have been in negotiations over interchange fees, which are normally higher for American Express credit cards. These are fees that credit card issuers charge each time a card is used online or in-store.
