Disney+ Gift Cards Work Like Regular Disney Gift Cards

Great news for Disney fans! Disney+ gift cards will now function the same way as regular Disney gift cards. Previously, Disney+ gift cards could only be redeemed for the streaming service, which led to some costly confusion.

Going forward, Disney+ gift cards and standard Disney gift cards are now fully interchangeable for US and Canadian customers. That means you can use a Disney+ gift card for park tickets, hotel stays, dining, merchandise, cruises and more. But it’s important top note that the two uses are still separate once a card is applied. If you load a Disney+ gift card to your Disney+ account for example, you can’t then use that balance at the parks, and vice versa. So decide how you want to use the card before redeeming it.

The change is clearly stated by Disney:

Can I use a Disney+ Gift Card like a regular Disney Gift Card?

Yes, a Disney+ Gift Card activated in the US will function like a Disney Gift Card activated in the US. A Disney+ Gift Card activated in Canada will function like a Disney Gift Card activated in Canada. Disney+ Gift Cards from other countries will continue to only be redeemed for Disney+ in those countries.

So why does this matter? Grocery stores and gift card retailers sometimes run promotions offering bigger or more frequent discounts on Disney+ gift cards than on standard Disney gift cards. If that continues, it makes it easier to score savings on your next Disney vacation.
