Crescent Hotels Taking Over FHR’s Mr. C Seaport in New York City

The most affordable New York City hotel in American Express’ Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) program is changing hands. To book hotels through the FHR program you need to have The Platinum Card® from American ExpressThe Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or the Centurion card.

Effective at 23:59 on January 8, 2023, Mr. C Seaport, at 33 Peck Slip, New York, NY, will be managed and operated by Crescent Hotels. Furthermore, Bellini Restaurant will also discontinue service on said time and date.

“We are committed to ensuring that all current reservations with arrivals after January 8, 2023 will be honored at the confirmed rate,”  Mr. C Hospitality Services said in an email. The company has two other destinations in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, CA and Coconut Grove, Miami, FL.

This is a property where you can book for less than $300 a night during low season, possibly as low as $269. That makes it a good option for using the Amex Platinum $200 hotel credit. I recently visited the Brenton Hotel in Newport RI, which is another affordable FHR property during the winter at least.

Going Forward

Update: The hotel’s new name is ’33 Seaport New York’.

For now the hotel is still bookable through FHR and still shows up as “Mr. C Seaport”. I have a stay for later in January, and I’m not sure how this transition will affect it, especially when it comes to dining options.

I reached out to a travel agent and was told that the latest information American Express has for 2023 bookings is that you can use the dining credit at Bellini (restaurant), Bellini (bar), Lobby Lounge & Bar, and In Room Dining. I’ll update with any additional information from hotel management.

Update: Hotel staff says it’s too early to know how everything will operate going forward, but they will have more information in about a week. Bellini (restaurant) and Bellini (bar) might open for lunch and dinner in just a few days, but they don’t know for sure yet and didn’t want to give out the wrong information. Lobby Lounge & Bar will still be open and you can use your $100 hotel credit there.
