Coronavirus Latest News

Instead of blasting you with coronavirus (COVID-19) news every hour, I’m putting together a roundup of news that I come across during the day. Here you can read about the Level 2 travel advisory for the US which is a rare step for the CDC, Alitalia requiring passengers to wear masks, TSA letting people board with hand sanitizer containers up to 12 ounces, Nike shutting down stores, virtual museum tours you can take from home, and a fund video from Palermo under quarantine.

The U.S. Is Now Under A Level 2 Travel Advisory

China, Iran, South Korea and most of Europe is now at Level 3. The rest of the world, including the United States and the rest of North America, is now at Level 2, which indicates sustained community spread where travelers should practice enhanced precautions. This is extremely unusual. CDC does not generally issue advisories or restrictions for travel within the United States.

Nike Shuts Down All Stores in U.S., Western Europe to Curb Virus

Nike Inc. is closing all retail stores in the U.S. and Western Europe to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. The closures, which also include Canada, Australia and New Zealand, will take effect Monday and last through at least March 27. Nike will continue to pay employees during the shutdown, the company said.

Alitalia Requiring Passengers To Wear Face

In light of the severity of the situation in Italy, Alitalia is now requiring passengers to wear protective breathing masks onboard. With Alitalia’s policy:

  • Passengers are required to bring their own masks
  • Before boarding, passengers will be required to put their masks on
  • The exception is if there are not a lot of people on plane; passengers don’t have to wear face masks if they can keep one meter of distance between them and other passengers
  • Alitalia can deny boarding to passengers who are not in possession of a mask
  • Alitalia recommends that passengers wear a protective mask also while at the airport, and during boarding and disembarking the aircraft

You can now take up to 12 ounces of hand sanitizer through airport security

The Transportation Security Administration announced that it was updating its policies concerning liquids in carry-on baggage in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Air passengers will now be allowed to bring on board hand sanitizer containers up to 12 ounces (355 milliliters) in size, which is much larger than the standard 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) previously allowed.
