Coronavirus Latest News
Instead of blasting you with coronavirus (COVID-19) news every hour, I’m putting together a roundup of news that I come across during the day. Here you can read about stimulus checks that are coming within 3 weeks, Amazon suspending accounts over price gouging, Netflix lets you watch movies with friends during isolation, a bodega delivery app in NYC and how coronavirus has crippled the mafia.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Sunday that Americans could expect checks from the historic $2 trillion stimulus bill to be direct deposited in their accounts within three weeks but experts have determined it could take longer to receive the money.
Amazon.com Inc. said it has suspended thousands of seller accounts for price gouging during the coronavirus pandemic. The operator of the largest U.S. online marketplace said it has pulled well over half a million offers and suspended more than 3,900 selling accounts in the U.S. for violating its fair pricing policies.
Now you can Netflix and chill with that special someone, even if you’re not together while remaining in isolation as millions of Americans stay home in an attempt to stem the spread of the coronavirus. A new Google Chrome extension called Netflix Party allows people to watch movies and shows on their computers at the same time.
The app has been developed in collaboration with the Bodega and Small Business Association of New York, which represents about 16,000 bodegas across the city. For now, only some bodegas in the Bronx are on the platform and the goal is to get more than 1,000 NYC bodegas registered over the next six weeks. See most popular delivery apps here.
The coronavirus has succeeded where lawmen like Bobby Kennedy and Rudy Giuliani failed for more than a century — by putting the freeze on the mob. The wholesale cancellation of major sports in the face of the contagion has wiped out tens of millions of dollars in illegal gambling income, a “historic” blow to the Mafia, law enforcement sources told The Post.
And here is a screenshot of the latest numbers in the United States and how it compares to other countries around the world.
