Citi Shutting Down Some Strata Elite Accounts
The Citi Strata Elite launch has been a big mess so far. It all started with many new Citi Strata Elite applicants getting hit with a request for Form 4506-C (request for tax return information) after being approved and receiving the card.
Citi also locked accounts for those who were affected, until the process is completed. That meant that they couldn’t use their card to spend the required amount to earn the welcome bonus.
At first Citi gave one month extension to complete the spending requirement to some of those affected. Then they sent out emails saying the annual fee and any AU fees will be refunded, and they would issue the welcome bonus without the spending requirement.
But it didn’t end there. Some of the Citi Strata Elite cards that were unfrozen after these emails, were then shut down in recent days. Citi reps are not sharing any reasons for the shutdowns for now, and advising affected cardholders to just wait for a letter in the mail in one or two weeks.
