Targeted Citi Checking Bonuses, Earn Up To 60K ThankYou Points

Citi is sending out mailers with offers to earn as much as 60,000 ThankYou points bonus for new checking accounts. The offers contain a unique code, so you must have received one in order to qualify. The Citi Checking 60K TYP offer is valid until June 30th.

• Citi Gold Account
  • Earn 60,000 ThankYou Points when you spend $1,000 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.
• Citi Priority Checking
  • Earn 50,000 ThankYou Points when you spend $750 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months
• Citibank Account
  • Earn 30,000 ThankYou Points when you spend $375 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.
• Basic Checking
  • Earn 10,000 ThankYou Points when you spend $125 worth of debit card purchases and make one or more qualifying bill payments for two consecutive months.

Must not currently have or have had an account a Citibank consumer checking account within last 180 calendar days.

Fees

The Citigold account for the 60K bonus requires an average monthly balance of $200,000. The Basic Checking account also has a very small bonus so it’s not worth the trouble. So let’s look at the other two options.

The 50K TYP bonus I think might be the best option. The account has a $30 monthly fee (waived with $50K balance), so you will have to pay a few months worth of fees until you get the bonus. Most likely it will cost you $90-$120.

The other option would be the 30K TYP bonus. The Citibank account has a $25 fee waived with $10K balance. You’ll just forfeit you interest that you might be getting somewhere else.

It also might be worth asking to have a month’s fee waived. Bank will do that for customers occasionally.
