Chase Clawing Back Sapphire Preferred $100 Hotel Credit After Canceled Reservations
Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders are reporting that Chase is clawing back the card’s new $100 annual Chase Travel hotel credit when a qualifying hotel reservation is later canceled. Reports surfaced on US Credit Card Guide forums shortly after the refreshed benefit launched, which doubled from $50 annually.
The hotel credit is intended to offset eligible hotel stays booked through Chase Travel. If the reservation is canceled and refunded, Chase appears to be reversing the statement credit as well.
The reports are a good reminder that the credit should probably be viewed as a rebate on completed hotel bookings rather than a benefit that can be triggered and immediately cashed out through refundable reservations.
For those unfamiliar, the refreshed Sapphire Preferred now offers up to $100 in annual hotel statement credits for eligible Chase Travel hotel bookings, up from the previous $50 benefit. Chase was not clawing back the $50 credit previously, when stay was canceled.
