Bilt Shares Details About Authorized User Enhancements

Bilt is making it easier to share your Bilt Card with the people in your life. Bilt Members in the Close Friends program can now add authorized users starting at age 13, customize controls for each person individually, and manage everything from your Bilt app (these features will become available to all Bilt cardholders in the coming months).

You can request to join Close Friends through the Bilt app.

How It Works

  • Add authorized users starting at age 13. Teens 13+ will be able to use a Bilt Card with full parental controls. You decide the monthly and per-transaction limits, choose which merchant categories are accessible, and see all purchases in real time. It’s a practical way to give them spending experience while you stay completely in the loop.
  • Everyone gets their own card number. Your authorized users will have dedicated physical card numbers that earn into your shared Bilt Points balance. If someone’s card is lost or needs replacement, it never affects anyone else’s access.
  • Virtual cards for authorized users 18+. Any authorized user 18 or older will instantly be able to generate a virtual card, add it to their digital wallet, and shop online securely without sharing physical card details.
  • Set per transaction and monthly limits. Choose how much each authorized user can spend on a single purchase and over the month. Give your college student a monthly budget for everyday expenses, or set a babysitter’s card so they can cover dinner and a ride without the ability to make a big-ticket purchase.
  • Route where rewards go. Authorized users earn Bilt Points as they spend. For adults 18 and up, you choose whether those rewards come to you or go to them. Teens 13 to 17 earn on your account.
  • Choose where each card works. Pick which merchant categories each card can be used at. Keep your teen’s card working for everyday spots like groceries, while age-restricted places like liquor stores stay off.
  • Make housing payments as an authorized user. Authorized users 18+ can pay rent or other housing expenses through the Bilt app and earn rewards on those payments, just like the primary cardholder. It’s another way to make shared household expenses seamless and flexible.
  • Credit building coming soon. Later this year, authorized users 18+ will soon be able to build credit history through their Bilt Card activity. For teens added at 13, reporting begins once they turn 18, so they start their credit journey with a head start instead of a blank slate.
