Using Miles
Each mile is worth 1 cent when redeemed for travel and 0.5 cent when redeemed for cash back. When you redeem miles, you get 5% of those miles back toward your next redemption. So if you redeem the whole signup bonus of 70,000, you will get 3,500 back. Redemptions for travel statement credits, with the exception of your account annual fee, start at 10,000 miles for $100. Redemptions for your account annual fee start at 2,500 miles for $25. Redemptions for cash back start at 5,000 miles.
You can go online within 120 days of booking travel with your card and apply your miles for a statement credit. Miles don’t expire as long as your account is open, active and in good standing.
Applying for the Card
Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®Barclay will usually only approve you for a card every 6 months. If you have a Barclay card, is bet to put some spend on it before applying for another card. They don’t like dormant cardholders. There’s no real limit on the number of cards you can have with Barclay.
They also have a 6/24 rule. That means that they might not approve you if you’ve had more than 6 new cards in the last 24 months. I say might because we’re not sure if it still applies, and even before it was never really a hard rule.
Guru’s Wrap-Up
Barclays Arrival Plus basically earn 2.1X miles back on all purchases when you include the 5% redemption bonus. It’s great news for those who missed out on the card when it was available. Now the bonus is even better, at 70,000 miles, and the annual fee is also waived. The value of the bonus is $700 when redeemed for travel. Other redemption methods give you considerably less value.
