Asiana Confirms Star Alliance Exit Date
Asiana Airlines has officially confirmed that it will leave Star Alliance on December 16, 2026, as part of its merger with Korean Air.
The announcement lays out a timeline for the end of Star Alliance mileage earning, award redemptions, upgrades, and elite benefits for Asiana Club members.
Some key dates:
- December 16, 2026: Last day for Star Alliance elite benefits such as lounge access, priority check-in, and extra baggage allowances.
- October 15, 2026: Last day for normal Star Alliance mileage accrual processes.
- October 16 โ December 16, 2026: Mileage accrual on Star Alliance partners will require a separate post-flight request.
- Existing Star Alliance award tickets already issued for travel after December 17, 2026 will continue to be honored.
The move has been expected since Korean Air’s acquisition of Asiana, but this is the first time the airline has provided a firm departure date. Following the integration, Asiana customers will transition into Korean Air’s network and gain access to SkyTeam benefits instead of Star Alliance benefits.
