There’s been some reports that the personal Amex SPG card will be gone after the new unified program kicks off in August. So it kind of made sense that the bonus was also lowered to $200 statement credit today. But, tonight I received an email from Marriott’s communications team on behalf of the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cards from American Express.
There’s not many details, but they confirm that the SPG Amex Consumer (personal) Card will live and there will will be “very rich” bonuses in the coming weeks.
Here’s the relevant text of the email:
We wanted to apologize for any miscommunication / misinformation you may have received in the past. We want to confirm that the SPG Amex Consumer (personal) Card will, in fact, continue to be issued after August 1, along with the business Card. Additionally, there will be a very rich sign-up bonus coming in the coming weeks (different than the $200 statement credit you saw today). Have no fear!
Guru’s Wrap-Up
This is promising. It’s good news that the Amex SPG card will continue to be issued and even better news that there will be better bonuses coming. The card will undergo some changes coming August, which I covered here. The source of this information is related to Marriott although I haven’t had any previous communications. I asked for details on these upcoming “rich bonuses” but was told that they’re not yet available.
If the bonuses are what we’ve been accustomed to with SPG cards, then you could get another chance to sign up for these products. Even the regular 25,000 Starpoints bonus was way better then the current $200 bonus. Could we see a free 2 night offer also? Let me know what you think.
