New Amex SPG Bonuses Are Here, And They Are Bad!!!

American Express has changed the signup bonus on the personal and business versions of their SPG credit cards. There were rumors from DoC that this change would be coming, but it’s even worse than expected. Instead of 25,000 Starpoints, now you will get $200. Even that $200 is tiered and you need a Marriott/SPG stay to get half of it. The old bonus is also gone from referral links.

Guru’s Wrap-Up

During the Marriott/SPG merger announcement we learned that there will be a new premium SPG card coming out soon. That could be one of the reasons that these bonuses are lowered. They will clearly want people to sign up for the Amex SPG Luxury Card that’s coming in August. Also the personal SPG version will be discontinued as it will be taken over by Chase. Going forward Amex will only have the SPG Luxury Card and the Business SPG card.

For now it would be foolish to apply for this bonus. Hopefully we see something better soon, at least on the business version, or a huge bonus on the $450 SPG Luxury Card when it comes out.
