New Business Platinum Card Members Will Soon Earn Extra 4X on Office Supplies, Gas and More

A few days ago, American Express announced new enhancement for cardholders. Part of that announcement were bonus categories for Business Platinum Card Members. Current cardholders can access up to 400,000 additional Membership Rewards points on purchases made across wireless, shipping, advertising, gas and office supplies. This actually applies only to those who have had the card prior to October 31, 2020.

The press release said that “in the coming weeks, new Business Platinum Card Members will also receive exciting offers for their first three months of Membership.” It seemed like this could a whole new set of offers, but in fact it will be the same bonus categories the current cardholders get.

American Express reached out to clarify with the following statement:

Additionally, these are the same offers as what we introduced for current Business Platinum Card Members: “Starting Jan 11, eligible new Business Platinum Card Members will also receive 5X Membership Rewards points in these same five categories (wireless, shipping, advertising, gas and office supplies) within their first three months of membership (no enrollment required).”

Current Business Platinum Card Members will earn a total of 5X Membership Rewards points for wireless, shipping, advertising, gas and office supplies through the end of June. While new cardmembers will get these bonus categories for three months only, starting from January 11, as part of the welcome bonus. So it actually works out better for current cardholders. If you want to get these bonus categories though, you need to wait until January 11.
