Amex Doubles 35% Rebate Limit for Business Platinum Card

American Express has doubled the maximum number of points that Amex Business Platinum cardmembers can get back when redeeming for flights through Pay With Points. Previously there was a limit of 500,000 membership Rewards points, and now that limit is up to 1 million points.

This limit increase wasn’t publicized much when changes were announced in October. That’s when a new 120,000 Membership Rewards points bonus was launched as well. However, you can often see a 150,000 points bonus publicly when opening a referral link on a private browser window.

New and existing cardholders can receive 35% Membership Rewards points back when using the Pay With Points feature for all or part of a flight booked with American Express Travel. The points rebate only applies if the flight is either First or Business class or any class for your selected qualifying airline, including economy tickets. Now the rebate limit is 1,000,000 bonus points per calendar year. That means that small businesses can redeem up to around 2.85 million points per year and still receive the rebate. The new rebate cap went into effect on Jan. 1, 2022.

You don’t need to have the Amex Business Platinum card to use the Pay With Points feature. But Amex Business Platinum cardholders get the 35% rebate. This is also a feature on the Amex Business Gold card, with 25% rebate on up to 250,000 points back per calendar year.

This limit increase is not something that will affect most people. However, businesses that have a lot of credit card spend and Membership Rewards points, will find it beneficial.
