Amazon Pharmacy to Offer 6-Month Prescriptions Starting from $6
Amazon said today that it is offering six-month prescriptions starting at $6 for medications for common health issues. The company said prime members would get even more savings when paying without insurance. Prices start as low as $1 per month for select medications, including drugs such as amlodipine for high blood pressure and simvastatin for high cholesterol. Two day shipping will also be free.
Insurance companies don’t usually cover six-month prescriptions. So this new Amazon Pharmacy offering targets both the uninsured and those who are insured but still pay cash due to high out-of-pocket costs. Customers can search for their medication by name and find out if it’s eligible for a six-month supply and what the price it will be when using the Prime prescription savings benefit. A prescription from a healthcare provider will still be required.
Amazon is also looking at launching physical pharmacies in the United States, Reuters reports.
