Visa Checkout has been around for a few years now. It was released back in 2013. But now Visa is planning to shut down the service sometime in 2020.
9to5google reports that Google unexpectedly removed information about Visa Checkout from the “Supported accounts & services” section of a Google Pay support page. That left PayPal as the only supported service. Google also confirmed to the site that Visa Checkout is actually on the way out and will not be around for much longer.
The news is not a complete surprise. Earlier this year, major card issuers like Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover announced they would collaborate to soon launch their own checkout button.
