US Bank FlexPerks Gold Amex Card, 30K Bonus, Up To 6% At Restaurants & Free TSA PreCheck

Besides theno annual fee Cash 365 Card, US Bank also introduced the FlexPerks Gold Amex Card which is definitely more interesting. The card comes with a nice sign up bonus, decent earning rates and some valuable extras.

Right now you can earn 30,000 enrollment FlexPoints (value up to a $600 airline award ticket) after you spend $2,000 with your new FlexPerks Gold Amex Card within the first four months of account opening. You also get either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry for free, whichever you apply for first. And there’s a $25 airline allowance with every award travel ticket good towards baggage fees, in-flight treats and more. No foreign transaction fees either.

The card earns triple FlexPoints at restaurants, double FlexPoints at gas stations and airlines and one FlexPoint on all other purchases. If you get maximum value out of your FlexPoints, then the earning rates are pretty awesome.

Keep in mind that the card comes with a $85 Annual Fee, which is not waived the first year.

Redeeming FlexPoints

When redeeming FlexPoints the best value will be with airline award tickets. It’s mentioned in the bonus page that you can get a value of up to 2 cents per FlexPoint, but that is not guaranteed. The way FlexPoints work is that you have to redeem at least 20,000 points in 10,000. While you do get 2 cents per point, FlexPoints are redeemed in blocks, so with 20,000 FlexPoints you can buy tickets valued up to $400, with 30,000 FlexPoints you can buy tickets valued up to $600 and so on. So a $250 ticket and a $400 ticket will cost you the same, 20,000 FlexPoints. Also you can not combine the price of two tickets, you have to redeem FlexPoints separately for each ticket.

If you do not have any travel plans, you can always redeem FlexPoints for 1 cent each for statement credit or 1.4 cents per point towards the annual fee.
