Southwest Devalues Rapid Rewards Points?
In recent weeks there’s been tons of bad news about Southwest Airlines, as they change their whole business model while moving away from what people loved about the airline.
In that announcement from earlier this month the airline said that it would “introduce variable redemption rates across higher-demand and lower-demand flights.” And now variable redemptions are live, and as expected it’s not good news.
Southwest points have loosely been tied to the cash price with an average value of about 1.4 cents each. As of today that has changed. The value that you get for your points seems to vary between 1 cent per point and 1.7 cents per point. However, the higher valuation seems rare and most fares will be between 1.1 and 1.2 cents per point from what I saw on many searches this morning.
Let me know if you come across any fares that give you terrible value or a great deal for your Rapid Rewards points!
