Southwest Launches Cash + Points and Hotel Bookings with Rapid Rewards

Southwest Launches Cash + Points

Southwest Launches Cash + Points

Southwest Airlines today introduced Cash + Points, a new flexible payment option for Rapid Rewards® Members. The airline has been testing this option for a couple of weeks by making it available for select members only.

All Southwest Rapid Rewards members can now use a combination of points and other eligible forms of payment to purchase Southwest flights on Southwest.com/cashpluspoints. Rapid Rewards Business members can also pay for flights with a combination of cash and points

When choosing Cash + Points, members will be presented with up to five options for point redemptions, starting at just 1,000 points.

The value you get for your points when paying with Cash + Points may vary based on destination, time, day of travel, demand, fare class, point redemption rate, and other factors. But you will see that information before booking your flight. But the redemption value ican be as low as 0.6 cents per point and up to 1 cent per point at best from what I see.

It’s worth noting that Cash + Points bookings will not earn Rapid Rewards points, tier qualifying points for A-List or A-List Preferred status, or Companion Pass® qualifying points. Flights paid for with Cash + Points will count toward a Member’s qualifying one-way flights for A-List, A-List Preferred, or Companion Pass status when flown.

Redeem Rapid Rewards for Hotel Stays

Southwest Airlines is also offering Rapid Rewards members the ability to use their Rapid Rewards points for hotel stays. You can book hotels with points at hotels.redeemrapidrewards.com, which is powered by Rocket Travel by Agoda.

Additionally, members booking travel with points can choose to pay for hotel bookings using only points, or a combination of cash and points. You’ll likely get a value of up to 1 cent per point.
