Old Point National Bank, based in Hampton, Virginia, is offering a 6-month CD with an interest rate of 6.02% APY. You only need a minimum balance of $500 to earn this great rate, which is currently the best in the country when it comes to high-yield accounts. Until now, NASA Federal Credit Union and Merchants Bank had claimed the title of highest CD rate. NASA FCU offers 5.65% APY for a 9-month share certificate, while Merchants offers the same rate for 12-month, 24-month and 36-month share certificate.
But there’s a catch with this great rate. If you want to open an account at Old Point National Bank, you can’t do so online. You will have to visit a branch and those are only located in Virginia.
