Nearly 50 Million Cardholders Had Credit Limits Reduced, Card Closed Involuntarily

Nearly 50 million credit card customers in the U.S. said they have had their credit limit slashed or their card closed in the past month as lenders move to minimize their risk amid the COVID-19 shutdown, a new study revealed. They found that among cardholders, 37 percent of Gen Z (ages 18 to 23), 36 percent of millennials (ages 24 to 39) and 35 percent of Gen X (ages 40 to 54), said they experienced the changes. That compares with just 8 percent of baby boomers, ages 55-74.

Uber closes Eats operations in eight smaller markets

Uber Eats announced this week that it will end operations in eight markets because they did not offer a clear route to becoming the number one or number two online food delivery operator. The markets where Uber Eats will no longer be available are Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and Uruguay, and wind down the Eats app and transition operations to Careem (its wholly-owned subsidiary operating primarily in the Middle East) in UAE.

J.Crew has filed for bankruptcy

J.Crew Group, which operates the J.Crew and Madewell brands, has become the first national US retailer to file for bankruptcy protection since the coronavirus pandemic forced a wave of store closures. The clothing retailer said Monday that it has filed to begin Chapter 11 proceedings in federal bankruptcy court in the Eastern District of Virginia. The company also said it had reached a deal with its lenders to convert about $1.65 billion of debt into equity.

MS’ing your way to lifetime Hilton Diamond

The Amex Hilton Aspire card now earns 12X at grocery stores after new limited time benefits were introduced. And all those points will go towards your Hilton Base Points towards Lifetime Diamond status. Here are the requirements:

  • Earn Hilton Diamond status for 10 (non-consecutive) years PLUS
  • Complete 1,000 paid and reward nights OR
  • Earn 2,000,000 base points.
