JAL and ANA Double Fuel Surcharges
If you have a trip to Japan on your 2026 radar, you have until April 30 to avoid a massive spike in travel costs. Starting May 1, Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) will nearly double their fuel surcharges for North American routes due to soaring aviation fuel prices.
For flights between Japan and the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, the one-way surcharge will jump from approximately $180 to around $350.
These record-high fees were slightly mitigated by Japanese government subsidies. Without them, the surcharges would have been even higher.
To lock in the current lower rates, you must book book before the May 1, 2026 deadline. This temporary price increase is in effect through June 30, 2026.
