Iberia Offering 50% Off Award Tickets in Economy, Premium Economy or Business

Iberia Plus has launched a great promotion for Iberia Plus members, offering a 50% discount on Avios bookings to fly in Economy, Premium Economy or Business Class on all available routes. The fine print was updated and now says it’s for Spain residents only, but it still works for everyone.

The promotion page notes that this is an “Exclusive promotion for Iberia Plus members residing in Spain.” However, the 50% discount is applying to all bookings, regardless where the account is registered. There’s no promo code required.

Offer Terms

50% discount Avios offer on the purchase of Avios tickets from the 24th of August until the 30th August 2020 for flights operated by Iberia, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum and Iberia Express for travel between the 1st of September 2020 and the 15th of March 2021, with the following exclusions: Madrid-Barcelona airlift flights, Iberia flights operated by LEVEL, and flights operated by Air Nostrum that do not have origin or destination of Madrid. The offer applies to available classes for redemption in the Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class cabins. Fees, taxes and surcharges are excluded from the promotion. Promotion not applicable to flights operated by Vueling or other airlines.

Book now with the peace of mind of being able to change your flight later. If you buy your trip for 2020 from May 28 to August 31, you can change your flight for free. Applies to all fares.

It’s as simple as this:

• Request the change (date, time, origin and/or destination) up to 15 days before departure.
• Just pay the fare difference (if any).

Guru’s Wrap-up

Looks like they meant to launch this in Spain only, but mistakenly are offering it to everyone. You can still book flights to Madrid for 8,500 Avios in economy right now. You can also use 12,250 Avios for Premium Economy and 17,000 Avios in Business class. Sweet deal if you have Avios or you can just transfer from Chase Ultimate Rewards and American Express Membership Rewards. Transfers are instant, but sadly there are no transfer bonuses currently.

Now sure if it will be honored for those who book from outside of Spain. Still worth a try though. Just need to book by August 30 (but probably better right now while it still works) and travel by March 2021. Keep in mind that there’s also the issue of the travel ban for Americans visiting Europe. By March things could open up, but as of now you cannot travel.
