Frontier Airlines announced this week that its newest order of long-range airplanes could make Hawaii its latest destination. The ultra-low cost airline said that its upcoming order of 18 A321XLR Airbuses will allow it to begin looking into flights to the Hawaiian Islands. The new, fuel-efficient planes, which launch in 2023, have a range of 5,400 miles. So Frontier Airlines flying to Hawaii is a real possibility in a few years.
“The A321XLR will enable Frontier to offer coast-to-coast service and explore exciting international and domestic opportunities, such as Hawaii, while continuing to deliver ‘Low Fares Done Right’ to our customers,” said Barry Biffle, president and CEO of Frontier Airlines, in a statement.
Frontier Airlines operates flights to over 100 locations in the United States, as well as six international destinations.
Southwest Airlines recently inaugurated flights to Hawaii. These flights marked a major shift in the market between the United States and Hawaii. But if Frontier also jumps in there, we could see even more affordable prices.
Southwest Airlines and Frontier both offer single-class seating. But, Frontier’s seating is tighter than Southwest’s. Although Frontier does offer some seats with additional legroom. On flights to Hawaii that should make a difference on your flight experience.
With Frontier Airlines flying to Hawaii, Southwest is probably the airline that should be most worried. Both carriers will compete for the cost conscious customers.
