Citi Adds Eligibility Pop-Up for Strata Welcome Bonus

Citi Now Shows Bonus Eligibility

Citi Pop-Up for Strata Welcome Bonus

Citi appears to have added a new step to the application process for its Strata credit cards.

Some applicants are now seeing a pop-up before finishing the application that tells them whether they’re eligible for the welcome bonus. In one example shared by AwardWallet, Citi’s pop-up says the applicant is pre-qualified for the Citi Strata Premier, but not eligible for the new account bonus. The applicant can then either continue without the bonus or cancel the application.

Citi recently moved away from its old 48-month rule and added tougher welcome-offer language for the Strata family. Citi says bonus eligibility can be affected by whether you currently have or previously had a Citi Strata Premier or Citi Premier, along with your broader history of opening, closing and using credit cards.

The good part is that Citi shows the message before you finish the application, and the pop-up says reviewing the offer won’t affect your credit score. So if the bonus is the main reason you’re applying, you can choose to back out before going any further.

For now, this appears to be showing up with the Citi Strata family rather than across every Citi card.
